Filtering antennas for wireless communications and sensing

日期:2023-09-24 23:29 点击量:

报告摘要

Miniaturization, integration and multi-functionality are the trends of future development of radio frequency front ends for wireless systems (e.g. mobile and satellite communications, microwave and millimeter-wave remote sensing…). Antennas and microwave filters are two key components in wireless systems. This talk will discuss “filtering antenna”, also called “filtenna”, which is one single device integrating the functions of both antennas and microwave filters. Filtering antennas have become a hot topic of research during recent decades and many results have been reported by researchers globally. This talk will give a brief review of recent development in filtering antennas. Then a few practical design examples of filtering antennas for wireless communications will be presented. This will be followed by a discussion of future research challenges.

个人简介

Steven Gao (高式昌) is a Professor at Department of Electronic Engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong, China, and the Director of Center for intelligent Electromagnetic Systems at CUHK.

His research interests include intelligent antennas, phased array, MIMO, multi-band/wideband antennas, reflectarrays, transmitarrays, RF/microwave/mm-wave/THz front ends, 5G/6G wireless communications, and microwave remote sensing for environmental monitoring. He co-authored/co-edited 3 books ("Space Antenna Handbook", Wiley, 2012; "Circularly Polarized Antennas", IEEE-Wiley, 2014; "Low-Cost Smart Antennas", Wiley, 2019), over 400 papers in international Journals and conferences, and over 20 patents.

Prior to joining CUHK, he was a Chair Professor of Microwave Engineering at the University of Kent, UK (Jan 2013-July 2022), and served as the Head of Communications Research Group (Jan. 2020 -July 2022). He becomes an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent since Aug. 2022. He obtained a PhD in Microwave Engineering from Shanghai University in 1999.

Prof. Gao is the Editor in Chief of IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWPL). He is an IEEE Fellow, and was the UK’s representative in European Association of Antennas and Propagation (2020-2022) and a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE (2014-2016). He was General Co-Chair of 2021 UK-Europe-China International Workshop on Millimeter-Waves and Terahertz Technologies (UCMMT), Lead Guest Editor of Proceedings of the IEEE for Special Issue on “Small Satellites” in 2018, Lead Guest Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation for Special Issue on “Low-Cost Wide-Angle Beam-Scanning Antennas” in 2022, and the Lead Guest Editor of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation for Special Issue on “Antennas for Satellite communications” in 2015.
